Holy cow, it works!

Well, I decided to dip my toe into the home automation waters, and it makes me so happy that this worked so easily! It was a simple project, really, just replacing my front porch light switch with a smart switch so I can have it turn on/off with sunset/sunrise.I had my doubts though, in part because I was adding additional layers of complexity to the project.

I wanted to run the Home Assistant server on a vm in my VMWare cluster, and therefore needed to pass a USB controller (for the Z-Wave stick) through to the VM. Much to my surprise that was painless. Installing HASS was a cinch. The hardest part was replacing the light switch, and I’ve done that a few times before.

Kudos to the HASS development team! What a well documented and functional product. Looking forward to more fun projects and digging into the HASS code.
