Home Assistant and RaZberry2/Aeotec stick on different devices?

Is it possible to run Home Assistant on one machine and RaZberry2 (or Aeotec stick) on a different machine?

For example, I have a Linux server (dual-cpu, etc) in my basement that runs Home Assistant (via Docker) and many other services. I was thinking about building a small Raspberry Pi + RaZberry2 (or Aeotec stick) and placing it upstairs near my door locks, light switches, etc.

Is this possible?

Can I just run OpenZWave or Z-Way on this separate Raspberry Pi and have Home Assistant communicate with it? (i.e. the Raspberry Pi would be functioning as a dedicated Z-Wave Hub essentially)

There are several choices, the beta OpenZwave integration, zwave2mqtt, Home Assistant Remote + native zwave, etc.

You could use Z-Way but there’s no integration with HA, AFAIK.

I’m also planning to have such a setup using Zwave2MQTT on the Raspberry feeding Mosquitto running on my HA machine.

At least I haven’t seen a possibility how to use an “external” MQTT broker in the new OpenZwave thingy.

If you don’t use the HA Addon, you can do whatever you want.

Also, I could be wrong, but my impression was that the OpenZwave addon will use whichever MQTT broker you have configured with the MQTT integration. It looks like it has an internal broker that acts as a bridge to the external one.

Great, thanks for pointing me to the right direction! :love_you_gesture:
