Home Assistant freezes from time to time

Do you maybe use Studio Code Server addon? I had such an issue with it. Huge CPU consumption.

The “top” command shows average 60-70% idle…

Memory is kind of low (about 200M free out of 8Gb)… Will try to install 16G…

8gb should be more than enough unless you’re running cameras or llm.
Go through each add-on page and look at the memory usage to identify which one is eating up your memory, especially vscode as mentioned above.

This addon is very useful with memory/cpu problems:

Just froze again… Upgraded the box to 16Gb…

PS. I have Frigate with 4x cameras… Will see if this will stop freezing…

Hey, see if you can get a screen and keyboard connected. Some network interfaces, even on desktops, go into some weird sleep mode and disconnect from the network.

The host might be up, just the NIC is “asleep”.

I also had problems with Frigate and HAOS freezing from time to time. I’m running it on an HP MiniDesk with an i5-6500T and 8GB of RAM.

I found this discussion about similar problems with Intel 6000 and 7000 series CPUs:

Recently, I updated to Frigate 0.16 beta, and I haven’t had a single freeze in the past three weeks.

I have a bare metal setup (ryzen-based thinkcentre mini PC), and I also have the same issue, the host freezes completely.

I also connected the keyboard and monitor to it, and once in reappeared the monitor showed nothing!

I too have to power cycle, but it is very frustrating because it is happening almost once a day now.

I have connected a very cheap “HDMI-through-CAT5”… When it hangs, I have nothing on the console (monitor).

I have Frigate 0.15.1 (not “beta”)…

I ended up just created automation on Hubitat to power cycle HA box if I cannot ping it… Need to check logs, if it happened lately, however, I’m glad that “it’s always works”…

PS. I had exactly the same behavior, when I had Dell Mini-PC (diskless station converted to a full PC). That’s why I “upgraded” it to HP mini-PC (even though it uses a little bit more power).
