Hey all…
Struggling with necessary components for a decent system. I started with an Aqara M3 but soon decided to swap it out with a HA green. I have several devices from Aqara, vibration sensors, P1 motion, hub m1s (all zigbee). I also have a few tapo smart plugs and smart outside dimmable plug (all matter). Somehow i ended up with a sonoff dongle m (back in the box after getting the max) and a sonoff dongle max. There has to be a setup that gets me headed in the right direction. I have worked for years in telecom, access control, fire and berg alarms so electronics is not unfamiliar to me. But…… the last time i dabbled in home automation was back when x10 was all there was. With what I have, is there a good configuration I should back up and set up differently? I have a few automations in mind and they all would consist of several different protocols like zigby, matter, and i’m sure others. How do i get all of these to play together nicely?
With home assistant automations. HA does not care which integration or protocol you use to connect your devices. Once the devices are in home assistant you can write automations that use any or all of the devices.
Work backwards.
Make a list.
What integrations exist in HomeAssistant that support the sensors and devices you already have?
Can you group them?
What connections are needed, and do I have to purchase any further devices to make them talk sensibly to each other, or replacing them be the most efficient approach?
Is your time free? Do you like to futz around and get satisfaction wrangling an errant device to speak politely to you?
What of the future - is voice and video and AI integration on your near horizon?
X10 - I go further back than that - two tin cans and a long string between my cubby house and my neighbours! Wanted something moved? You shouted over the fence. Voice control.
