Home Assistant is installed -- NOW WHAT?

I have installed Home Assistant and it is accessible on my network, NOW WHAT?

Most of my devices use the Go Smart app, but I am unable to find the plugin for it in Home Assistant. Does that mean my devices are not compatible?

What I really want are locally controllable devices, at least for lights. Some of my lights use spart plugs such as these

or switches such as these

What are comparable replacements that are controllable locally. I’d also need devices, that in the event of power failures revert to their previous state IE before power failure on = after power failure on, before power failure off = after power failure off.

Thank You

Hello,

Your devices probably are Gosund devices that probably will integrate using local tuya see: GOSUND Lights and Plugs - #2 by vingerha

Local only devices that can do what you request that I can suggest are:
Shelly devices
Esphome or Tasmota (these are firmware running on the devices) devices like Athom ones https://www.athom.tech/esphome, but there are many others. These will run usong your home network, wifi or wired.

Then devices using Zigbee or Z-wave are local but you will need an additional piece of hardware to communicate using these protocols.

First I suggest you evaluate the protocol (network, zigbee, zwave, matter etc…) then look what product are available in your location that we don’t know. Guessing North America from the plug shape
If you don’t want to experiment start with some wifi devices and test, in this way you don’t need to invest in new many pieces of new hardware.

Hope it helps

Thank You.

Yes all my devices are GoSund. Couldn’t remember the brand name.

Yes I am in North America, the US specifically.

I’d rather not use anything like Zigbee or Z-wave devices that require additional hardware. I have enough hardware around now. Also, the more hardware involved seems the more complicated the system. I am in IT and technically inclined, but I don’t see the need to make things more complicated then they need to be. Also an un-need expense

Over time I have added hardware, but my entire setup only really performs two functions:

  • Manages lighting
  • Manages climate (AC, Heating & Fans).

I know others have added other systems:

  • Smart Locks.
  • Garage doors.
  • Automated blinds.
  • Sprinklers
  • Pool management
  • …

I respect your desire to remain “minimalist” on your setup - it’s a good way to ensure you don’t spend every waking moment debugging automations.

However I think you need to turn the question around and ask:

  • What is it you are looking to get out of Home Assistant?

PS - I used a second hand PC for my HA installation, so my costs have been reasonable as a result I think its totally reasonable to limit scope to just Lighting and Climate - HA can make a big impact with a very small footprint.
