Home Assistant OS 17.2 Update Issues

Hi all,

I have updated both my HomeAssistant installations with OS 17.2 this morning. After rebooting, they both show: “Driver: failed to open the serial port. error: no such file or directory, cannot open /dev/serial/by-id/…” in the ZWave JS UI App. No hardware changes. I do not even see the USB port in System–Hardware-All Hardware. I rebooted both systems, and nothing fixes it. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks!

Even Zigbee is impacted. It says: “Unknown command.” in the Control Panel, and Zigbee devices do not work. It’s like all USB connected dongles are impacted, running on a RPi4. This has worked well for years, on both devices. The issues has to be related to the OS 17.2 update I did; this issue appeared on two different installations, right after the 17.2 update.

I reverted to 17.1 and it’s all auto-magically back to normal. I recommend you be careful with 17.2 running dongles on RPi4; something is wrong with the 17.2 update.

cant confirm.
both Zigbee (ZHA) and Zwave (Zwave JS) operating correctly after 17.2 was updated.

not running a RPI4 so maybe there’s a lead? did you check the OS GitHub repo and file an issue with logs there? they can help

Running usb z-wave on Rpi5 and working with OS17.2

Sometimes after an OS update, I have to shutdown the server, power off, wait a minute or so and then restart. Always fixes Zwave and Zigbee connectivity problems.

I tried that, a few times actually. Nothing worked.

I will try to log in an issue in the GitHub repo tomorrow.

Thanks for the thread. I experienced the same and rolled back to 17.1. I’m on a RPi4 with a Nortek HUSBZB-1 stick.

Same issues for me.

Have a look at my post here…issue with OS 17.2 on some Pi4 devices…is resolved now in linked thread…
