Home Assistant Refuses External Connection

Hi all,

I know this is a problem for a lot of users and I have spent a lot of time reading older posts but none of them reflect my situation.

Everything was working fine until recently and something has appeared to break my ability to connect to HA over the net. It is something in HA itself but I cannot find what.

I have updated the system to 2026.1 and all add-ons etc. are up to date.

I am using Duck dns with a dynamic hostname. HAOS runs on a virtual server on my iMac 24 with a fixed IP address.

Using xxx.ddns.net:port it should redirect to the HAOS server port 8123 but it simply tells me “safari can’t open the page because Safari cannot connect to the server xxx.ddns.net

However using a different port path redirects to the Mac IP where I run a test server, I get the expected response. I can also access my ISP router config page through another port and I have also been able to access HA Supervisor using yet another port that forwards to :4357 on the HA server.

The only item that does not work is the redirect to :8123 on the HA server.

Under Network in Settings I have set the Home Assistant URL to the duck dns hostname and port xxx.ddns.net:port ==> HAOS server port 8123. I still cannot connect.

I have not installed the Duck dns add-on but I do not think I need to as I previously had it working without it by redirecting through my router.

So can anyone tell me what is stopping it please?

Geoff

Not sure what I did but I suspect it was aligning the external addresses with the HA URL. About 20 minutes after posting, it just started working so the connection issue is solved.

I have other issues but will raise them in separate posts.
