Home Assistant SkyConnect (OpenThread Border Router) fail after update 2025.4.1

Hi all,

After updating Home Assistant to the latest version, my SkyConnect dongle no longer appears to work. It was functioning perfectly before the update.

Current versions:

  • Core: 2025.4.1
  • Supervisor: 2025.03.4
  • Operating System: 15.1
  • Frontend: 20250404.0

After the update, I noticed that my Thread router shows as “offline”, and when checking the OTBR add-on, it reports that the SkyConnect is not connected.

I already tried:

  • Fully rebooting the system
  • Unplugging and replugging the SkyConnect
  • Restarting the OTBR add-on
  • Switching USB ports
  • Checking hardware overview → The dongle does appear under /dev/serial/by-id/...
  • Updating the serial path in the OTBR configuration to the correct one
  • No other changes were made besides the update

Nothing brings it back online. It seems to be directly related to the 2025.4.1 update.

Has anyone else run into this? Any ideas on how to get the SkyConnect working again?

Thanks in advance.

Check the logs and also check the casing of the USB dongle for swellings, since a batch of the produced USB dongles had a failing power converter.

If you are using a USB hub it may be the hub that is causing the issue.

When it came to zha “forgetting” its existance, I had to remove my skyconnect and have it plugged directly to my nuc to bypass the issue then throw out my hub that I was using with it and swap to USBDeview to disable and enable it should my nuc reboot so that the vm and can see it properly each start as a failsafe.
