Home Assistant TextNow Beta (Send SMS From Home Assistant For Free)

unfortunately no, and if youd like to help on this project to make it more undetected by textnow (i was thinking of monitoring how the phone app interacts with the api to trick it to thinking its a phone app running and sending text or deconstructing the apk to convert to an addon with some added code on top idk

Yes I have an idea and I am testing something out. If that works I will let you know.

Thanks for this integration New textnow Accounts wait time restrictions

Does TextNow support international customers moving to their phone plan to support TextNow’s ‘free’ services?

Eg: non-USA residents, a sizeable portion of HomeAssistant users.

Is bypassing their advertising or using VPNs or international IP locations going to contradict their Terms and Conditions and spoil it for everyone?

Their business model relies on offering ‘free’ sms its not going anywhere. and to your following questions, im not sure.

Just wanted to let you know that the idea I tried didn't work. What I did was attempt to build a script that would allow a login through homeassistant to store the login on the server itself. Unfortunately my attempts to confirm the verification did not work.

Regardless, thanks for trying to help.

I’m actually in the middle of building an alternative SMS method that uses iMessage through the BlueBubbles API. The main downside is that it requires running a macOS VM, but the project itself is pretty cool. It’s called ChatBack AI.

The idea is basically Node-RED for communications. Right now it’s focused on automating iMessage/SMS, Gmail, and WhatsApp, with AI responders, logic gates, and custom workflows.

If we ever get TextNow working in the future, I could simply add TextNow as another gateway too.

Goals

While this is definitely overkill for Home Assistant, and I could probably turn it into a SaaS, I’m more focused on open source and automating things in unconventional ways.

There may already be similar tools out there, but my goal is to add more functionality and depth to what users can do through Home Assistant.

In the near future, I plan to port a beta version as a Home Assistant add-on/app so people can start testing it (oncourse with more home assistant focused nodes as well.
