Home Assistant Voice PE device installation keeps failing

Hello, I just recently moved my HA intance to another device. I’m starting from scratch and it’s a clean install. The install itself went very smoothly. No issues whatsover. The problem I am having is installing my “Home Assistant Voice PE” device. I factory reset it to start and the device itself shows up under “Devices discovered”. I installed the HA App on my phone (Android) logged in as normal and went through the Home Assistant Voice PE install as normal (Improv via BLE), connected to my Wi-Fi but constantly throughs this error message: “Config flow could not be loaded: 500 Internal Server Error Server got itself in trouble”. I’ve tried multiple factory resets and firmware reinstalls on the the device itself but no luck. Always the same error message. Logs below…

Any thoughts would be greatful. I’m at my wits end at the moment. Thanks in advance.

I’ve done this so many times already. No change. I can connect the device to my Wi-Fi through the phone setup (checked on the modem) without issue, and then it immediately fails with the same error message and the same logs.

Help please?

I installed esphome, grabbed the yaml from GitHub, modified it with my WiFi info and flashed the HAVPE over usb.

I’m not skilled enough for that, sorry. I am what you would call a HA and HAVPE noob. I just want to install it as I’ve done before. Something in HA must have changed between moving it to another instance of HA.

Look over instruction and check step by step

Make sure you give ble and location permission to HA app if pairing with phone

I flash direct so I not familiar with pair over ble. I also have ble on my HA server so it discovers device and I just need to add.

Make sure you push button on HAVPE to allow pairing. Check instruction for this step if you not understand what I mean. It will not pair otherwise

I don’t think HaVPE has 5ghz WiFi so make sure you are connection it to 2.4ghz

There is a bunch of stuff, I do not recall the details, to install on Home Assistant (not the VPE itself) to support them. Check for that list. Things like (i’m going from memory) whisper, Wyoming, etc. You should be able to use the assist button on the companion app and/or a browser (if it has a mic) once your HA is set up, even before installing a voice assistant itself. I would get that working then come back to the VPE.

Probably. Something in HA changes every month with each new release. Sometimes big changes, sometimes small changes. Depends on your setup. I never update or make changes without reading the release notes first.

We don’t know your setup because, except for your log file, you haven’t provided much information for the community to help. For example, you say “I just recently moved my HA intance to another device”. What device & HA version # did you move from and what device did you move to…what HA version are you running now? How is your HA installed?

The community here is awesome & great at answering questions and helping. I learned everything I know about HA right here in the forums. But most people are not going to pull info from you…it’s up to you to provide it, the more the better.

In case you’ve never seen this, please have a look at how to get help here.

I had same/similar issue. I had 2 brand new VPE devices that wouldn’t install by following instructions. This is what support told me.
May I ask if we can try to manually integrate the VPE to your system?
This can be done by accessing the Settings->Devices&Services->Add Integration->ESPHOME menu and entering the VPE’s ip directly in the ‘Host’ field followed by pressing ‘Submit’!
(You can find the IP of the VPE within your router’s settings!)

Somehow, I managed to get it sort of working this route. Can you do me a favor when you get them back up and check and see if focused local assistant works for you? I got mine working but was forced to sign up for cloud trial to do so. Now that cloud trial is ended and VPE will not work locally. I want to see if it is only me.

I believe “clean install from scratch” means the latest versions and he/she said the default steps. How would the other hardware affect installing software for this piece of hardware (vpe). A noob wouldn’t write down the version number of HA before doing a complete reinstall on a new system and it’s hard to get the version number of something that has been deleted. Perhaps try to be a little bit more supportive, understanding and less of a lecturing.
