Home Assistant Voice PE internal speaker not working

Hi,

I have an HA Voice PE, which was working fine when it first arrived. However, I wasn’t satisfied with the internal speaker, so I connected it to external speakers instead. Initially, I encountered an issue where audio only played through one external speaker. To resolve this, I opened the HA Voice PE and adjusted the 3.5 mm jack pins slightly, which resolved the external speaker issue.

Unfortunately, after making this adjustment, the internal speaker stopped working entirely. I’ve inspected the connectors and cables but haven’t noticed any visible damage or loose connections.

Could you advise me on how to troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Adjusted the pins in the 3.5 mm jack?
That little component has a switch that change between internal and external. You destroyed the switch when you started bending pins.

The problem with the connection of the 3.5 mm is that the jack is supposed to protrude through the hole in the case so it is flush with the outside surface.

Very few 3.5 mm males have a slim housing that can fit in the hole.

The fix is to take the whole unit apart and carefully enlarge the hole in the plastic case so it is as large as a standard 3.5 mm plug body. I had to do that on my 3. None of my various plugs I tried would get proper connection. None of my headphones either.

I used a reamer to carefully enlarge the hole. You can also use a step drill but be careful not to drill into the loudspeaker.

@KennethLavrsen You are absolutely right! When I adjusted the pins, they never return to the “not connected” position. I just re-adjusted them and now the internal speaker works!

Thank you so much.
