Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition response cutoff

Sorry if the topic was addressed before, but I searched and did not find it. My setup:

  • HA on Raspberry Pi 3B
  • Home Assistant Voice Preview Edition box
  • ChatGPT as home assistant in Czech Language
  • Tested with Google Translate as well as with Home Assitant Cloud TTS (as Piper won’t run properly on my slow hardware).

What happens:

  • When issuing commands, like “lights off” “TV on”, everything works
  • When trying to converse with ChatGPT, about 60% of the time speaker shows turning LED as if it is about to speak and then LED turns off and speaker is silent
  • When debugging, Voice Assistant got the proper response from ChatGPT, but it may have been too long.

Question:

  • Is there a timeout that I can increase so that the speaker actually says what it is supposed to and not shut down?

Same, happens all the time and is very annoying.

I upgraded to Raspberry Pi 5 - no change, answer still gets cut off. Anybody?

There have been and are a number of bugs listed in the Esphome github against the VPE devices for ‘cutoff’ issues like this. Go look a d see if one applies.
