I’ve noticed that the Home Assistant Yellow is out of stock of all official resellers for several weeks now. It has even disappeared from my preferred retailer’s catalog.
After contacting them directly, they confirmed they got the confirmation the product have been discontinued, but they couldn’t say whether a new version or successor is planned.
Does anyone here have confirmed information or updates about the future of the Home Assistant Yellow?
Get a minipc instead The price/perf curve has not been favorable for pi since the pandemic.
With almost all minipc, you get nearly 4x the Cpu for the same price as a pi or any pi based compute module. If you buy a zigbee/thread adapter at the same time you have a beefed up version of a yellow for less money…
NabuCasa made a production run when it was introduced and that stock is now sold out.
The starting cost of a production run is quite high, so they need to order a lot for it to spread does staring cost out on the customer purchases.
Yellow is dated, as mentioned here, and can’t really compete with other solutions anymore, so the produced versions of a new production run will be harder and harder to sell and probably end out with a loss to NabuCasa in the end.
The Home Assistant Green is still available, AFAIK, and NabuCasa might be working on a new release, but it is not something they will reveal to us users. It might be scrapped later due to some unforseen event and then they have to handle sad users.
As much as they are leaning into AI… Knowing nothing it would not shock me at all.
For now, buy a Beelink or something like that.
Stay away from the world of Pi anything.
