Home Overview categorization logic

Hi
Installed the latest HA and there’s the new default Overview dahboard. There are Summaries section and one of them is “Lights”. For some reason I have only one device there and it’s “Smoke detector basic” (Fibaro smoke detector) and none of my actual lights. Given that my “lights” are actually Shelly switches, I’d categorize them still as lights on the dashboard. Also “curtains” would not go to climate categorie in my mind (but they are there).

Is there a way for me to categorize them myself? And how can I remove the smoke sensor from “Lights” since this is definately wrong.

First, double check that it’s wrong. Some integrations will expose things like indicator lights or screen backlights as light entities. If you do not want the entity to show up in the Overview or Light summary, as I understand it, you need to hide the entity in it’s entity settings:

If you want your Shelley’s to show up in the Light summary, you can create a proxy light entity quickly by going to the entity settings for the switch and change the “Show As” to 'Light":

Thanks for the info. I hadn’t notice the “Show as” field for some reason. Is it new?

As for the smoke detector, You are correct - it is exposed as light, again didn’t notice:

That’s so wierd since I have one more exactly the same model Fibaro smoke detector and this is reported as sensor. Is it possible to change it?

It’s not super-new. IIRC, it was probably added in the last year… :man_shrugging:

You could set up a Template sensor Helper, then hide the light entity.
