This is very impressive, the amount of information is amazing. I currently have something in place on a much smaller scale that announces thunderstorms or tornado’s and this looks like it will do that and way more.
The one announcement I do have that I am not seeing but maybe it can be done and I just don’t see it is to announce when a lightning strike occurs within 10 miles of my home. Is there a way to do that currently or maybe as a future item?
Cheapskate lightning sensor option: A crystal set, tuned to no particular frequency and a headphone speaker, both rectified, capacitor smoothed, and zener protected for overload, both feeding into an A-D converter may provide the same sensor capability as peering outside to look for lightning and thunder, both having many harmonics but the amplitude (how intense the electrical flash and how loud the boom) being the defining criteria. You may need some real data to calibrate against.
Your watch or mobile phone, accelerometer active and reported back to HomeAssistant Connect can also be used for detecting the low frequency sound blast from thunder. Working back from pressure and temperature, the time taken to trigger your watch can then be used to calculate the radius distance travelled by the sound. Triangulation can be used to narrow that down to a fixed location.
Having three fixed accelerometer as well as pressure sensors if you don’t have a smart watch or phone can also be used as a primitive seismograph. Again, calibration is the challenge.
Some meteorological institutes collect this data. Often is is pay only or delayed, unattractive for hobbyists.
Maybe just leave it to the experts, with their maintained and calibrated sensors? If sensors don’t exist in your area, there must be a reason, and it is usually as nobody has found a monetary need, or way to charge for the data.
Sorry, unsure what you are getting at, what I meant was I see the integration is currently using Blitzortung for lightning strikes. I currently use this and one of the sensors within it provides distance. When it gets within 10 miles of my home I have an announcement play. I was just wondering if that would be possible with this integration I wasn’t sure how I would capture that in the current configuration or maybe it could be added in a later release.
Ah that’s perfect, I thought that was just for viewing it on the map. I’ll give that a try.
I should of annotated that:
Determines the data reported to the sensors in ha, bypass makes it ignore the zone set on map and passes all data. For example bypassing sensor scope for lightning will report all lightning data to the sensor so if the last strike was in California but your in Virginia you’ll be getting that in your sensor lol
Determines the data reported to the integrations announcement system, bypass makes it announce things outside of the zone.
The scopes are just filters

I finally got around to trying speak scheduled forecast and I get an error. When I did the trace thing it says "stopped because an error was encountered at August 4, 2026 at 11:06:00 AM (runtime: 0.04 seconds)
_handle_speak_scheduled_forecast() missing 1 required positional argument: ‘call’"
In the automation I have the config entry set to Home Weather and Media player is set to my living room speaker.
