No good: WD Blue SN580 WDS500G3B0E 500GB
Good: Crucial P3 Plus CT500P3PSSD8 500GB
I had the opposite experience with the 1TB version of the SiliconPower that came bundled with my Home Assistant Yellow + CM5 from Ameridroid. The yellow periodically locks up and spews I/O errors.
Just ordered this because of all the 500gb options it was the only one available with two day shipping. Will report back with another data point when it arrives.
I can’t speak to how it might work with the CM5 (I have a CM4), although it seems like the compatibility should be the same. I’ve had not one lick of problems with it since I installed it. Maybe you got a dud?
I’m assuming it’s due to the size–1 TB drives seem to have incompatibilities at a much higher rate.
I’ve added everything from this thread to a spreadsheet here:
Hello,
Brandon from ameriDroid here, from our experience SiliconPower NVMe’s 128GB, 256GB, 500GB, 512GB, 1TB, work with the Home Assistant Yellow both with CM4 and CM5’s, we have not seen that same issue in the past, if I’m not wrong I think we even had a few customers who ordered a 2TB and a 4TB to run with their HA Yellow. If you would like to send it back we can test it with one of our HA Yellow and CM5’s to check if maybe you might have gotten a faulty NVMe.
You beat me to the thread Brandon
I meant to update my perspective here based on you sharing how frequently those Silicon Power SSDs are used together with HA Yellows this morning. At this point I believe mine was just a dud and not indicative of a broader issue, and I’ll send it back for testing.
Hello,
I first tried a PNY CS1030 250GB, but it does not work. Then I tried a Silicon Power (SP) A60 256GB NVMe M.2 PCIe Gen3x4 2280 SSD, as it was reported as compatible, but got a different model that does not work, it’s a SU256GB34A60M28, not a SP256GBP34A60M28…
I tried a WD Red SN700 that has been reported to be compatible, but still nothing…I’m starting to think I do something wrong, or I’m very unlucky.
Hello Jazz, what is exactly the issue you are having? Are you trying to use the NVMe to boot the OS? Sometimes we have heard that the issue might be that the NVMe is not fully compatible with Rpiboot so the flashing process is not completed correctly. We typically recommend trying with a NVMe to USB adapter in those cases.
BTW, what is exact Part # of your Kingston NV3 that works with CM5?
