I just got a cheap 7" HDMI monitor which has a resolution of 640x480 and the text displayed is so small that it is illegible.
Is there an easy way to fix this?
I’m running on a Raspberry Pi 4.
Hi David, AFAIK HA by itself doesn’t have an option to set/change the resolution.
Are you running HAOS on your RPi or is this a client?
You could change the scale factor or modify your dashboards/cards for better readability (if it’s a client)
I have some problem on RPI5…
Is there anyone can help?
Thanks
Hi Stefano, it’s gonna be difficult to help you if we have to guess what your issue is…
Sorry for the typo error…
I meant “same” and not “some”…
I have RPI5 with small HDMI monitor (resolution is 480x320) and cannot set proper resolution… so text is so small that is unreadable…
It appears that output is always fixed at full HD even if I set lower resolution in config.txt…
Any help would be appreciated
Is this a HA server or client?
HAOS has most likely fewer options to manipulate the video output compared to a ‘regular RPi’ OS
HA Server… RPI5 with HAOS…
By reading on other forums (link) it seems that 480x320 is not supported by RPI5 (and RPI4) but 720x480 yes…
I will test it asap
I want to add that I was using the same Display (Kedei 3,5 HDMI) with my previous RPI3A+ and it was working at its native resolution (480x320) by adding the proper lines in the boot/config.txt
The problem is that with RPI5 (I upgraded my HA from RPI3A+ to RPI5 recently) the same settings are ignored…
I guess with RPi5 things have changed (remember vaguely having read about changed boot options) and I have no clue if the recent versions of HAOS play a role in all this but maybe it does…
I can imagine having bought a display for your HA server you would like it to work as you hoped but I’m curious if it’s even possible.
I’m running a RPI with the official 7" display as a client in my office with browser but I don’t think I would do this again.
Thanks…
I will let you know if I am able to set it at least at 720x480 (it would be acceptable…)
I confirm I get 720x480 resolution working woth cmdline setting… even if it seems to be a “cutted” output from higher 810x540 (or something similar)…
Texts are not perfect but at least readable… better then nothing…
I wonder if it’s really impossible to get its native resolution (as it was possible with RPI3A+ which I had before upgrading to RPI5)…
I also contacted Raspberry support but they don’t want to help because it is HAOS (so it’s not the official Raspberry operating system… which I tried anyway obtaining exactly same result)
Can you please explain how you increased the size with the cmdline?
