How connect 2 lightstrips to one PSU

hi,

i have a long window front approx 6 meters wide, which is divided into 2 parts (3m each) by a pillar in the center. at that pillar, there is my powersocket, where I would like to connect the PSU to supply power to both lightstrips, which are installed below the window front as 2x 3m light strips.

is there a way to connect both light strips to the same PSU? If yes, what do need to make sure of and what hardware is needed? And what about the Mi Light controllers? do I need 2of them as well or does 1 suffice?

Regards
Kian

Without knowing any information about what lights or PSU you are talking about, I can guess and say “YES, just splice them in”

hi,

i am in the process of ordering the hardware (RGBW lightstrips, controllers, PSUs), but have no clue what i need.

i will order 2x decent 5m RGBW lightstrips, and cut them to the appropriate size. Now, I would need to know what else I need in order to be able to integrate them into HASS and to control the with Google Assistant.

As far as I see, I would need a PSU and Mi-Light RGBW Controller. So, what kind of PSU would be needed to power up 2x 3m lightstrips simultaneously? Feel free to recommend lightstrips as well that goes well with Mi-Light and HASS and Google Assistant.

The available hardware options for lightstrips and related required accessories out there is just crazy and does not make it easy for me to reach a decision.

You’re kind of asking an open ended question here.

It depends on what lights you want, how they connect, and what power supplies work with them. A power supply is just supplying power. As long as it can output enough power for 2 devices (most likely not an issue at all), it doesn’t matter. You can take any power supply that provides the right voltage and splice into it if you need. The real question is how you plan on integrating this into Home Assistant. You need some way to control all these things. Likely your controller would provide power to the lights, so it seems like you’re trying to put your cart before the horse.

As I mentioned above I am still in the process of selecting the right hardware.

I basically want a good solution for indoor lighting. For this, I would like to illuminate 2x 3m windows fronts and the back of a sideboard with a 2m Lightstrip.

For this setup, I would like to order a good quality Lightstrip (good illumination characteristics with rgbww colour range) with the right PSU, “splicer” and wifi controller that would allow me to set it up and control it via HASS and Google assistant.

Any quick hardware advice you can give me?

For these kinds of things I would just purchase some strips and make my own controller and power supply. In this regard, I don’t have any suggestions, as I would just do it myself.

You keep mentioning the power supply but you actually need to focus on a light and controller that does what you want. The light and controller will determine the power supply.
