I am running home assistant with a HP M01-F1000i (8BX08AV) that has a super multi-DVD writer, and I was wondering how I could make the button on the DVD drive to eject and insert work and make it readable in home assistant. it also worked when I had windows initially in it and now it has home assistant OS on it
Hi welcome to the forum!
I'm quite sure that it's not possible to make that device available in HA.
It has nothing to do with the PC itself but the system you are running on it.
Windows has drivers to control it.
Nothing is foreseen in HA to use this kind of device and there are very few use-cases to do so.
As far as I can tell because it is blocked by the HA Linux subsystem?
FYI, System --> Hardware --> Systemhardware, SR0 (/dev/sr0)
HA has no need for a dvd drive so why include additional drivers at the os level? (so they don't) same story with GPU drivers. Just not there.
Remember the core charter of HAOS is to run HA. The core charter of that is to run the home as a SERVER somewhere in a nondescript location. (which means a lot of the interactive experiences simply don't apply) sure it's been warped to do other stuff but the design core just doesn't need it.
Isn't the dvd-driver embedded in the Linux kernel? Just thinking, If so, maybe it can be added as a music source in Music Assistant (in the future)? Like a new or dedicated filesystem?
Would be nice, and fully inline with the sustainability principles, right?
@mcwarlockbot
Thanks for your initial question, it triggered me thinking, why not add a CD-player to Music Assistant?
Why not ask them by posting a feature request?
So I did. I hope you don't mind mentioning your name, mcwarlockbot.
Let's see where it's heading. ![]()
EDIT: Oeps, marked as duplicate ![]()
So you are automating your place and still want to go back in time by juggling cd's, hoping your HA is nearby, to be able to listen to them... ![]()
I would strongly advice you to rip those cd's and make them available to some mediaplayer in HA so you can control playback.
Linux is capable of addressing optical media, HA is built for other purposes so it is left out.
No, that's a complete different thing: they are asking for HA to be able to act as a mediaplayer by itself by connecting speakers to HA.
Thank you! I also have the same username inside github
