I have an old Android tablet (Android 5.1), and for some reason I can no longer use the official app. I can’t log in, either through Chrome or the app. However, I can still use Firefox. Since it’s a fairly small tablet, a full-screen dashboard would be really nice.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? How did you solve it?
I’ve already tried that, but it gets stuck (see picture). I’ve also tried different kiosk apps, but I always end up stuck at this point and can’t log in.
I really have no idea why this is happening.
There was a bug in 2025.8 that seems to affect Android versions 10 and earlier. The latest beta release 2025.8.9 seems to fix it. That version has been pushed to the Play store, but it is currently only available via sideload while awaiting Google approval.
I don’t know if it will necessarily work for your device, but it’s worth a try. Otherwise you can try rolling back to 2025.7.4
A VNC isn’t very useful, since it requires a separate server, which I don’t have available.
I’ve already downgraded the app to version 2025.4-full (step by step: first from 2025.8.9 to 2025.8.1, then to 2025.7.1, and so on).
I still encounter the same problem with other versions. (See picture, this is what happens after submitting the Home Assistant server URL.)
Is anyone else experiencing this issue, or does anyone know a solution?
I tried to update this, but every update via apk failed. This is no longer possible via the Google Play Store, as Android 5.1 is no longer supported by Google.
This makes the device virtually unusable, so I want to give it a new lease of life by turning it into a wall dashboard for my home assistant.
Yes, it works in Firefox on my tablet. However, it’s a small screen and I really want to see my dashboard in full screen. So the Firefox app is not a solution.
I could try to create my own application that uses the Firefox engine instead of Android WebView.
