How to add an external antenna to Home Assistant Yellow Raspberry Pi 4 module

I have fitted an external antenna to my Home Assistant Yelow Raspberry pi 4 module. I understand that it is now necessary to change the config file to disable the onboard antenna and activate the external antenna. I have found the commands but have no idea how to execute the edit. I have added File editor to the HA menu and it has the Terminal function also but there I am stuck. I am a newbie on this stuff and my knowledge is limited to adding several integrations one of which is an Aira heat pump system. I cannot receive a good signal to enable the integration to work properly. Phew - that was a mouthful!

Are you sure adding an external antenna is going to solve your underlying problem?

What are you trying to do? Doesn’t your heat pump connect to your router via WiFi, and not directly to your Raspberry Pi, which also connects to the same router?

Maybe tell us a bit more about your woes with why you are playing with external antennas which will probably void regulatory requirements for transmission levels and possibly swamp your neighbourhood and other devices in your home with unwanted radio signals?

How is your Yellow connected to your router? WiFi or Ethernet?

What model heat pump do you have?

My yellow is connected to the router via Ethernet. The heat pump is an Aira AH-320 6 kw. I need to do some more research to clarify which method Home Assistant Yellow Raspberry Pi 4 uses to communicate with the Aira. I know the Aira has both WiFi and BLE.

Just checked and HA used BLE to communicate with the Aira unit locally.

BLE is designed for very short distance communications.

What distance between your Aira and the BlueTooth receiver? Does the signal go through a wall or any other object?

The receiver is a HA Yellow kit in the lounge next to the broadband router. The reported signal strength in the integration shows <-75dbm which is why I have connect the external antenna to the Raspberry PI4 module. Now need to edit the config file for that device. I have a set of commands to enter just don’t know where to look. I have File Editor and Terminal in my HA menu.

The Aira unit is in the utility room in a 2007 build. Yes it would be better to be closer but that is not an option.

I haven’t done it, but it sounds like you should consider a bluetooth (BLE) proxy - Bluetooth Proxy - ESPHome - Smart Home Made Simple - not hard to setup, just need a little hardware.
