So, here we are… A year after the original post, 25 years in IT, and I found kindred spirits…

It is amazing how choice of words can mess you up…

As it’s a thing, here’s mine: 30 years working in IT including 8 years as a SWE on Chrome and TL of Android WebView, and I never thought of the browser cache when seeing this message. I’m so happy Google brought me here.

within Firefox:

  • and “clear cache”

Based on the information provided in the forum thread, the combined years of experience of the participants who mentioned their tenure are as follows:
• edgehassio: 20 years in IC design.
• TimGV: Close to 40 years in the IT industry.
• Heyian: 20 years in IT.
• chimeranzl: 30 years in IT.
• DataLohr: 18 years in IT.
• pcsmith811: 25 years in IT.
• Russell Nile: Over 40 years in the industry.
• sneakyvv: 23 years in IT development.
• algopt: Started professionally in IT in 1995, which would amount to approximately 30 years by 2025.
• olivievranska: 20 years in user support.
• Futzy: Since 1984, totaling 41 years by 2025.
• jacoh: 25 years in IT.
• joth: 30 years working in IT.

Summing these figures:

20 + 40 + 20 + 30 + 18 + 25 + 40 + 23 + 30 + 20 + 41 + 25 + 30 = 342 years.

Therefore, the combined experience of the individuals who specified their years in the forum post is 342 years.

PS. I’m here because Frigate card update says I need to reset my front end cache. I figured it meant a setting within HA somewhere…

that is exactly the type of rabbit hole i lead myself down frequently!

I’m not an IT professional, but i am an old fart. it’s nice to know my type of crazy is not as unique as it feels sometimes.

i found this post for basically the same reason as everyone else here (bubble card update) and come to find the solution was something i would have just done anyway without even thinking (kill and reopen the Android companion app).

I took a summer job when I left high school in 1981 working on TRS-80s for Tandy Electronics. I’ve been in IT ever since.

And I still needed to come here just to hear that I should clear my browser cache - d’oh!

LOL - Worth popping back into this thread to have a read what’s been going on.

Since I finally made an account here, I’ll chime in as well.

I’m just glad this thread existed because I also was looking for an advanced setting in the app somewhere. 40-some years working with computers, over 30 of that as a career, and I didn’t realize we were talking about the browser cache until I found this thread on a search either.

I’m just glad those decades of experience taught me to Google and search forums like this before posting a question!

ETA: I started on a TRS-80 model 3 in high school and then an 8088 since we’re all dating ourselves.

Oh well, it’s Valentine’s weekend and “you do you” :stuck_out_tongue:

ROFL.

Huzzah for Discount Chocolate Day!! My hubby and I don’t celebrate it, since it’s a mostly manufactured holiday and the celebrations usually involve “ew, people”. But we do head out on the 15th to stock up on chocolate!

But don’t shame DIY. Putting on my nurse educator hat, it’s normal and healthy!

One More Thing!

Mac thinks different.

After a bunch of updates I too arrived here because I thought ‘frontend’ was in HA itself.
The message is daft - it should state ‘browser cache’ not ‘frontend cache’.
(Started in computing with IBM 1800 Fortran and assembler in 1970 - so 55 years! The 1800 had core storage of 16k words of 18 bits each!)

Note that there are Companion Apps which are not “browsers”. That is why it is said - “frontend cache”.

Oh for pity’s sake. This is a black hole for professionals. Take my twenty years.

It doesn’t matter how justified it looks to a developer. If it causes friction for the user, it’s wrong.

Then proposing a PR with changed label is more productive than complaining in forums.
