How to disable synced sidebar customization?

As per the 2025.6 release, stated in the “Sidebar improvements” section:

In this release, this annoyance has been fixed! The sidebar customization is now stored in your user profile, so your personalized layout follows you across all devices you use with Home Assistant!

This actually screws up the sidebar on my phone. I don’t do HA dev work on my phone, I don’t need to see Z2M there, nor VScode, etc. - Whereas I do need these on my desktop. Not to mention the custom dashboard layout I have set on my phone, compared to my Desktop/laptop.

How can I un-sync these Sidebar changes?

After the last Home Assistant version, you can’t. Check this thread for workarounds.

Hello TurfFiber,

Just add a user to log in with on your phone, give it less permissions. Probably a lot safer thing to do anyway.
It’s what I did and what was recommended in the HA release YouTube podcast.

Thanks everyone, although as you said, these are all workarounds. We have effectively fixed one issue, but replaced it with another.

Even though sidebar sync is a great feature overall, it shouldn’t be forced. Users should be able to disable the sync or reorder on a per device basis, out the box.

@amy598cross what do you mean by using the Browser Mod integration? That seems like it would be closest to a solution?

Separate users are obviously a big no, because I am one person, not two. It would screw up resident groups, presence, etc.

I have a slightly different problem and maybe someone can help. So i have 1 user (me) that is on pc ipad and iphone. My wife uses home assistant on her phone and all is cool with ehr sidebar.

However my cas is perplexing. So i am the user, on the pc and ipad i have one dashboard for those and i have set the order of the sidebar with overview button at the top. When i log into the iphone, which uses a different dashboard, the overview button is at the bottom of the list. When i edit and move it to the top , the overview button on the pc and ipad move to the bottom! All other icons are in order.

Anyone else with this issue and is there a solution?

Man…it’s so frustrating some of these changes HA makes. Like I get it in theory why it could be nice, but why does it have to be forced??

Ever since this change in June, I cannot get my sidebar to stop changing. I want “Overview” to be the top option, and I’ve went through all the devices I’m signed into (a handful of wall tablets and 2 phones, plus my PC) and updated them all to this.

And yet randomly it will just discard these settings and put Overview back at the very bottom of the list. In theory that might mean another device is overwriting my settings but I am not signed in anywhere else so I’m at a loss as to why it’s occurring…and it’s beyond frustrating.

PLEASE consider either reverting or (better yet) having this be OPTIONAL like it should have been from the get go.
