With the update, the logic has changed in a way that broke my setup convenience.
I have two users: one administrator and one tablet user (non-admin) mounted on the wall.
I have a “Home” dashboard that is only for the administrator, and it is set as the default.
I also have a separate “Dashboard” created specifically for the tablet user, and all other dashboards are hidden for that user.
Before updating to 2026.2, when I opened Home Assistant as the administrator, it would show my “Home” dashboard by default.
On the tablet, only the “Dashboard” was visible, and it would always open automatically.
Now, there is a new built-in “Overview” dashboard, and it opens by default on the tablet instead.
As a temporary workaround, I set the “Dashboard” as default, but now it also opens when I log in as administrator, which I don’t want, since that dashboard is intended only for the tablet.
The built-in “Overview” dashboard has become too intrusive for my setup.
Would be interested in the same thing. I want to totally hide the “New Overview” dashboard in 2026.2, can’t seem to find a way to do it.
I don’t want it, I don’t need it, yet it is forced on my iOS Companion APP even when I have a different dashboard set as default. It simply always takes me there when opening the APP and I do not want such behaviour.
You can’t, are not allowed,
AND best would be that ALL entities are not loaded into a “frontend” Dashboard, upon Startup of HA
It’s totally insane to create such a Dashboard and Auto-fill it with all entities People might not even want in any Dashboards. For various reasons, and in Particular Not easy available for All Users
If i click the i.e Security-Link on that page i/everyone" get all my cams loaded into 1 View
HA Should load the Dashboard people Want At Startup, Not What Devs Want, and then give people an option to load “another” after start-up
No Dashboards with Auto-Populated Entities should Ever be created unless People/Admins want So
I found how to restore the previous behavior; it was mentioned here.
Open your user profile settings and select the desired Dashboard.
No control was taken away from users — the choice is still yours. You just need to select your dashboard instead of “Auto”. I trusted that this setting must exist. Making decisions for users would not be in the spirit of the Home Assistant project.
It’s still rude to change what people are seeing without asking first. Defaults should not be changed.
I have to manage over 70 users across five cities, some of them are over 80 years old. It’s just not easy to tell them to go into the settings to change something.
I have a mess on my hands due to this update. It sucks.
But a non-admin user (e.g. kids) can still access/navigate to the overview and make changes to heating/lighting etc. that may not be wanted by the admin. And also use the assist button to remove parental controls.
It really just needs the ‘admin only’ option to be available to the built in dashboards
With NexusViewPanel you could add each dashboard with thier direct path and PIN lock the admin dashboard. If you hide the sidebars with Wallpanel integration nobody can access the admin dashboard.
I created also a mess. Once I changed the selected dashboard and theme, it changed on all my devices.
Before I could have on each device different settings. Before I think it was device based setting, not is it only user based setting? If I log with same user I was forced to have same setting? I would rather roll back to 2026.1 version.
Now it is a chaos on all my devices.
I really, REALLY dislike the forced new “Overview” dashboard… especially because I have multiple normal people accessing my Home Assistant and I have specifically made certain tabs, dashboards and other things visible to every person depending on what they should be allowed to see, even adding a custom Kiosk addon to disable their sidebar and so on…
… just for the new “fun” Overview dashboard bugging out and still being displayed sometimes on refresh… which essentially gives them full access to everything I’ve added there.
This change alone, if not fixed, would mean I have to run 2 separate Home Assistants and “join them together” in order to have one Admin and one User installation… this REALLY sucks. Please let me control my own dashboards and not have one auto-populate for me which I’d never ever want.
Or if it’d even just offer to remove ALL devices and rooms it automatically populates there, that would already help a ton.
I have the same trouble.
Before I was able to have different default view on difference devices even thought logged in with samecuser.
After upgrade, I decided to roll back to 2016.1
But I still can’t make everything same as before. I was forced to create new users for different devices in order to have different default view.
I’m a supporter of HA (I pay the subscription) and it is for me an essential tool for my home. Without it, I would not have hot water, or my garage would risk flooding.
This type of breaking updates scare me A LOT. Not this particular one, but the very obtuse mindset behind it: “We made this and we think it’s great. From this moment on, this is the way you should use it”. Sorry what?
Do you think that I suddenly have half a day to search, read, understand, workaround a new breaking feature?
This is the reason this kind of “products” don’t leave the tinkerer world. Would never deploy something like this to a customer.
I updated tonight and was welcomed with this new silly overview on all devices. What is worse, it des not seems to matter if I set at dashboard as default, or if I have a dashboard as the url, it still shows Overview.
I cant manually select this panel, it just shows up when reloading the first view.
Anyone found a way to disable this permanently?
