Hi there, I do things a bit differently when it comes to free software. I install it, inevitably get stuck and need help along the way, then go to the forum for support. If my question gets answered and problem gets fixed, I make a donation. If a few hours later I have another question, I make another donation. I make dozens per year!
I can’t always afford the expensive subscriptions and sometimes just want to donate $5 at a time even.
talked about in the link below. no direct monetary donation to homeassistant. but there are certainly other ways to “pay back”. that’s why i’m here answering some questions… it’s my way of helping the overall effort, and also i learn a ton in the process.
Also individual 3rd party developers usually have donation options on their github repositories. So if you use a 3rd party integration or resource that works well for you consider donating to them to encourage them to keep supporting it.
