How to migrate from a Hue Bridge 2 to the Hue Bridge Pro

This wasn’t obvious anywhere and took me longer to do than it should. Hopefully these instructions help others.

  1. Ensure your Home Assistant install and Hue apps are fully up to date.
  2. For now you can only “auto-migrate” one old bridge. Choose the one that has the most devices connected.
  3. Open the Hue app and go to Settings > Software update. Ensure the bridge you are migrating from is selected and ensure all devices are reachable and updated to their latest versions.
  4. Plug in the new Bridge Pro and in the Hue app go to Settings > Bridges and press the plus button at the top.
  5. Walk through the process provided by Hue. It is the most well executed install/migration processes I’ve ever experienced.
  6. After you’ve followed Hue’s instructions and finished the last step, which is to hard reset the old bridge, you are done with the device migration.
  7. DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE HUE INTEGRATION IN HOME ASSISTANT. Instead, simply FULL RESTART Home Assistant.

Once restarted HA picks up the new bridge as if it were the old bridge and everything will work exactly as it did before.

Thank you for posting this. You are spot on and it worked exactly as you described.

Echo the thanks - went really well. Agree the Hue app has a good migration flow! Only issue I had was resetting the old Hue bridge - it never lit the LEDs the way the Hue app described. But since I removed it completely, it worked fine.

It does really take 20 minutes or so, so get comfy!
