I just bought my first Shelly product but I am having trouble adding it to HA. When I plug it into the wall thr blue LED is blinkingnand it sets up an access point. I can connect to the hotspot anf I have ip of the device. I went to its settinga and enabled CoIoT and then installled shelly plugin in HA. The integration asks for an IP. So I gave it the device IP but nothing happens.
Hello @trallan,
did you change the network settings of your Shelly device after you connected to the hotspot of the shelly and went to the administration page of the device?
You have to add this Shelly to your normal network (where your Home Assistant server is also connected).
When both devices are in the same network, you can add the Shelly to HA either via auto-discovery or via the IP address.
On your smartphone go to wifi settings connect to the shelly- SSID
You can now see a the IP adress it gave you with me it was 192.168.33.2.
In your browser on the phone go to the 192.168.33.1 the shelly webpage will open
Now configure Wifi Mode Client and put there the settings for your local network
As you hit save the device will get the new IP adress which you can look up in your router from your local wifi network…
But that would cause your WiFi credentials to be sent unencrypted for your neighbors to sniff.
If your neighbours connect to the same Shelly access point at that exact moment. Chance?
Automated sniffers do are a thing. They don’t even have to connect, they just have to tune in.
