How to start programming for home asst

I am totally new to this project, Have been running home automation on
Stargate systems for 19 years. Is there a place to learn how to simply
control devices using statements like else, or by time.

I can’t figure out where to even start to do anything. Got Pi4, HACS, etc.
running but now I am stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You likely want to look at the automation documentation assuming you have your devices in HA.

Sometimes it helps to provide something you want to accomplish, then try to create the automation. Wherever you get stuck, post on the forum for help.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the Automating Home Assistant doc. I understand what is being said, my first question to start where to you enter that information? Does it go in some file, i.e. config,`ui ``, etc.?
