I have a frient energy sensor that works well most of the time. Sometimes it loose connectivity for some reason for everything between a few hours to almost a day. It might be interference with WIFI or whatever. However Frient released a new sensor with updated Zigbee protocol that I would like to swap to. Can I just swap sensor and energy pane will continue to show energy use seamless or do I need to make a sensor template or something else?
In this forum there are various hints from updating databases (seems complicated), to make a virtual sensor (easier) or just swap. Is there anyone who has tried? Both sensors are connected using zigbee.
If you remove the old sensor and the new one with the old entity ID, the history would be kept. Do a backup beforehand to be sure.
For the future, it is better to set up a helper, either a template sensor that just picks up the value of the currently chosen entity, or a Utility Meter that resets daily and can swap its input anytime.
Database modification is possible, but not that trivial.
