I paired a Kwikset 888 door lock to HA. Then I read I should have used security options. So how do I unpair then pair this same door lock?
-Thanks

Maybe trying a google search will do the trick.
Got it on the first try.
Good for you! I searched and only found threads about not being able to delete devices in HA. Evidently you are not away that you cannot delete a device from HA, which is what prompted my question. If you mean this answer, it does NOT work:
Taking a guess here because there is no indication, zWave?
What coordinator software are you using for that.
Basically it’s going into the zwave integration and removing the device. Then to make sure it’s gone restarting the coordinator software, and add a new device.
Z-Wave locks are included with security by default in Home Assistant. The lock would not even work if wasn’t included with security. Is your lock not working? Did you confirm in the device page it’s included without security? There’s no reason to re-include it if it’s working.
I don’t see any way in the Z-Wave integration to remove a device. Unless I’m missing it?
-Thanks
No, security was an option, not the default. From what I’ve read you need security to be able to send lock codes using lock.set_usercode:
I use the ZwaveJSUI one.
I don’t see it either, but I do see a re-interview button if I click it and advanced. Also a button to redo the route if that helps.
There must be a different way to delete it, I don’t see it there.
I’m using this Z-Wave integration. There are no options to delete a device. The most you can do is rename it and or disable it. It’s not just Z-Wave, you can’t delete a Zigbee device either. Not sure why this is the case but it appears to be a major shortcoming.
I wonder if I paired it again (with security) and gave it the same name it would overwrite it?
My original plan was to rename “Front Door Lock” to “Front Door Lock - No Security”, then reset the lock and pair it with security and give it the original “Front Door Lock” name.
The default inclusion strategy used by HA and Z-Wave JS is to include locks with Security automatically. The only way your lock is not secure is if you manually included it without security*. Can you currently unlock and lock it in HA? If yes, you are using Security. It’s quite easy to look in the device page, expand the Z-Wave Info, and see what security level is reported.
* Unless you added the node in recent versions of Z-Wave JS prior to v15.15.3, a few versions prior to this had a bug with the default inclusion strategy and S0 security. The core add-on currently has this bug.
If the device does not have security enabled, then you will be required to exclude it and re-include it again. To exclude it just select the Delete option in the device page (…) and it will guide you. Or, very often a factory reset will automatically exclude the device. For inclusion, if you are using the buggy version of Z-Wave JS you’ll need to go into the advanced options and select Legacy security to avoid the bug.
On step at a time. Click the blue “5 devices” link, and then click your lock device, to get to your lock device page.
What do you see? Poke around and you should be able to tell which security level you have got.
I did not explicitly include security, so it is not included. Wow, I just saw the “delete” option for the first time. I could not find it previously. A senior moment! Now from what I’ve read I need to pair it with the legacy security option in order to have to the ability to control the lock.
Thanks for your help!
The Delete option from the Device page is relatively new, I think added a few releases ago.
The pre-existing (and still supported) method is to just go into the integration settings and select the “Remove a device” button. That starts the normal exclusion process.
Settings → Devices & Services → Z-Wave → Configure (
) → Remove a device.
