I am using HA on a Raspberry Pi4 and a SSD for several years now and needed to restore a backup for the first time. The size of the backup is 35GB. This is done by a lot for motionEye files which are backed up too. And the backup does not have a .\backup file so i get an error message restoring it.
How can I restore my backup file? I donot need the motionEye files. Can I delete the motionEye files from the backup? But how about the .\backup file?
Does anyone have an advice so I don’t loose a lot of data.
Can you not just deselect / not select the motion eye folder in the restore settings when restoring?
What size is your SSD? try deleting / copying to a safe place some of the old backups to clear space.

I cannot select/deselect the motionEye folder because HA errors with: Failed to load backup file.
My SSD is 240GB. I think that’s enough.
240gb will only cope with about 5 backups at 35gb each, so definitely check that. You should be able to remove a folder from the backup, its just a zip file after all. But nto sure that will work.
I only have one backup of 35GB on SSD, so that will be OK.
The backup file is a .tar file. You have to unzip it, then delete the motionEye files and repack it to .tar file. This changes the size of the backup file. That new size is to update in the meta.yaml file accompanying the backup file. This is all that I have tried, but in the backup file there is also a .\backup file which contains the apps to be restored, also wih size.
I donot know how to import the .\backup file in backup.tar file. This is a crusial file, I think when absent HA will error in “Failed to import backup file”
