Hunter SIMPLEConnect Issue

My one fan on firmware 1.10 refuses to reset the wifi module to be able to pair it again. I can get the remote to connect but when I do a reset, turning it off for 10 seconds waiting 10 seconds and pushing the reset button on the back on the remote it never makes a beep

I am unable to get the wifi to reset on it. I reset it at the breaker turn it back on and wait but after hold the spoon button it never beeps indicating a reset

From what I remember this was WAY trickier to get the timing right than it should be. One of them took me probably 20+ minutes of attempts, though most of the others weren’t that bad. I got pretty frustrated with it myself, but after enough tries I did manage to make it reset. If the remote is still paired and works otherwise, I would try extending your times a little longer. Turn the breaker off for at least a full minute. Then, I would try waiting more like 30 seconds after turning the power back on. It needs to be within 1 minute or so of boot-up, but I think it often takes longer for the module to boot than the 10 seconds they claim. If you’re not hearing any beeps at all, I would guess either the module didn’t fully power off or the button hold is starting before the module is fully rebooted.

If you still can’t get it to reset, you should contact Hunter’s support and have them walk you through it and troubleshoot it. It’s always possible there is a defect or a specific bug preventing this from working as expected. They won’t probably won’t help you connect it to HA, but just resetting and reconnecting to your WiFi & native Apple HomeKit is 100% supported and should work (more or less) as they document it on their site.

This is for all the people that come here after me searching for answers for trying to figure out how to add your hunter fan into Home Assistant. I spent countless hours trying to figure this out. This is how you do it (for Apple devices at least):

Remote not responding

  • Turn your light and fan off for 10-15 seconds. You don’t need to cut power at the circuit breaker.
  • Turn just your fan on
  • Simply press the pair button on the back of your remote and let go. Do not hold it down.
  • It will beep once at you and your remote will be paired again

Adding the fan to home assistant

  • Delete the fan from HomeKit if it’s connected
  • Open the SIMPLEconnect app
  • If you have your fan connected, remove it
  • If you are logged in, sign out
  • Do not log into your account. Just click “continue with fewer features”
  • Go through the process and add your fan to Apple HomeKit
  • Go into Apple HomeKit
  • Delete the fan.
  • Stay in the HomeKit app. DO NOT go back into the SIMPLEconnect app
  • Go into home assistant and add the homekit controller integration
  • You should now see the device and be able to successfully add it

What the problem is that the fan disconnects from the wifi. After you delete the fan from HomeKit, it keeps the fan on the wifi network. If you go back into the SIMPLEconnect app, it removes it completely from the app and the Wifi network. I hope this helps save others countless hours trying to figure this out and ripping your hair out.

Just adding in here, on the 1.10.41 firmware on the fans (seems to autoupdate with internet connection) I have achieved stability through the following:

  1. Set static DHCP reservations for all fans, I saw issues where if fan was left offline for longer than DHCP lease time, it would get a new address and have issues communicating.
  2. Once the fans were online and updated I blocked them via a firewall rule in my (OpenWRT) router preventing them from any access to/from the internet. (This helped resolve a weird issue with one of the fan lights turning on at 6pm every day even though I don’t even have the fans in a Hunter account). These devices are extremely chatty even when not in use, and I don’t see the need since the Homekit functions great without internet access.
  3. Connected fans to a 2.4ghz only SSID on my wireless network to prevent any steering issues as the fans do not support 5ghz

Hope this helps anyone have a more stable experience, I certainly love the fans now that they’re dialed in.

Thank you - this worked for me, too. Crossing my fingers it doesn’t drop off in a few days as some others have seen!

Thanks these instructions helped perfectly

Hey everyone, just breaking radio silence here. It’s been a little bit since I’ve posted in this thread, but I can report now that my fans are pretty consistently staying online.

  • Simple connect updated their app and that seemed to have helped the overall connection process.
  • I’ve since updated my Wi-Fi from a Google nest mesh Wi-Fi system into a Netgear Orbi wifi 6E that uses mesh as well, but I can specify a 2.4ghz network for my Smart devices.
    • I honestly think this is where my devices started connecting more consistently. The Hunter fans don’t do well on a 5ghz network band, and google would try to intelligently switch which devices were on which band for load balancing, but that made my Hunter fans inconsistent in their connection and unreliable.
  • I’ve only ever noticed issues now when my power goes out and my fans come online before my Wi-Fi completely finishes posting. Because I’ve removed the switch from my wall, and kept the fan always on, I have to completely flip the breaker. So if you do end up buying these fans, I would probably keep your switch on your wall, or replace it with some sort of smart switch that you can more easily reboot. I just didn’t want my fan switch to get turned off and my fan disconnect from Wi-Fi.

With all that said, these fans have been a pretty big headache and I’m glad that the issues have been somewhat resolved over time. It was a pretty rough go there for a bit though.

I ran across this post researching what home assistant was all about. I had this issue with the fans constantly becoming inactive after 20-30 min when using them with homekit.

Once I setup the fans using the Hunter Fan SimpleConnect App (not through homekit), my fans have been stable and are always active in homekit now. Before starting the setup in SimpleConnect, make sure you delete the fans in Homekit and forget their wifi connection so you are starting fresh.

This worked great for me as well. Thanks!

Update - it worked for my 1st fan but trying to add another fan I get an " Accessory already added error".

I’ve made sure the 1st fan is off and removed it from SimpleConnect and HomeKit. I can’t get pass this error and not sure how to ‘reset’ the device to get it setup

Sorry to necro…none of these ideas seems to work in 2025. Anyone still having issues? Any ideas?

A bit of a late response, but responding for future users. I also had to redo mine recently. The steps I posted above a few years ago didn’t really work this time around either. I spent a day and a half on this before I figured it out… again.

The main components to make this work is
(1) Disabling your 5 GHz wifi temporarily
(2) iOS device used
(3) Patience

Bonus: The Hunter app is not required!! This is explained in step 2.

Steps: (always start fresh after an attempt is unsuccessful)

  1. Disable your 5 GHz wifi temporarily. It is a must if you have issues.
  • It would not work for me as long as I had 5 GHz enabled.
  1. Patience: Wait 30 seconds before attempting to connect. The fan will appear as a device in your wifi settings at the bottom. Once it appears, refrain from selecting it until a minimum of 30 seconds has gone by. It is important that you wait.

  2. If you are still not having any luck, switch your iOS devices and try again.

  • It would not pair using my iPhone, but immediately paired using my iPad.

That should do the trick.
