HW requirements to install Hass

hi,
newb question, what are the hw requirements for the install?

I’d like to install it on a tablet, where it could be also controlled directly. Is that possible?
Or is a ‘server-client’ setup necessary?
thanks

While some tables have enough power to run HA for sure, they lack physical interfaces and an operating system that is supported by HA.

Go for a Raspberry Pi (4B 2GB or 3B) and use the tablet’s browser in kiosk-mode as dashboard.

Go above via “need help” then “getting started” it lists the requirements

There’s a summary in the docs.

You can have an entirely unsupported install on a tablet - some folks have done this. Not everything works though, and the experience is what might be called “interesting”. I’d never recommend it to anybody who actually wants to use HA…

thanks for all the replies, seems the Pi is the way to go :+1:

Pi + SSD yes

Pi + SD no

is the Micro SD card not recommended then?
Which SSD would you recommend?

thank you

Go for an USB pen drive, more compact than SSD, more reliable than SD and fast enough. Be aware, that using USB3 drives close to the RPi, it may have a negative impact on 2.4GHz Networks, especially Zigbee.

SD cards fail, when not if. How long they last depends on whether you’re using an industrial card (the longest), one for dashcams (reasonably long), or others (weeks to a year or two if you’re lucky).

The choice of SSD also depends on your chosen install method. There’s at least one community guide, and some other posts, if you’re going to use Home Assistant OS, that details what works there.

thanks for valuable advice

If you have an old laptop lying around that, IMO, would be better than a Pi
