Hi guys,
It seems that Apple are removing their cage (somewhat) around their services business. The Apple Music API has been out for a while.
I understand that in order to make use of this API you need to have a full developers account which is lets say $100 per year.
Is this purely the reason why no one has attempted within the HA community to create this integration?
The Hypothetical Question
If that is the case, and I am looking at people who know how to code etc (i am 100% not one of those, sadly I tinker, but wouldnt know where to start with something like this), assuming hypothetically there is an Apple Developers account available for the HA community use:
- How difficult would it be to implement Apple music much like the Spotify integration in HA?
- There are a couple of 3rd Party Apple media players already created do they help? Links below.
- Or does this require the Full Developer account per person ALONG with the apple music subscirbtion? ie you couldnt say have HA Community Apple Dev account which is then available to everyone as part of the integration. The integration then just asks for your Apple credentials, it then goes off to Apple, Apple go yep you have apple music issue a token to the integration with a thumbs up to give access.
3rd Party apple music media players
- zachomedia - Under an MIT license
- Musish - AGPL-3.0 License
If the above is literally just hampered by the Apple tax, and there is appetite in getting this thing of the ground, I am keen in helping and trying to get this up if anyone is willing?
Unless ofcourse number 3 is true and everyone would need the full dev account, which would answer all the questions once and for all.
Apologies if this is just a pipe dream, but one hopes and dreams
