I am Just Getting Started

Hey all!! I am very new at this, but have learned a lot already. My layout right now is HA on a VM that resides on my Plex server. I have some fine tuning to do, mainly setting a static IP for the VM as it keeps knocking off my app access every time that server gets rebooted. My equipment is a mis-match of a LOT of different vendors and ecosystems with the intent to (hopefully) integrate everything beyond what Google Home can do for us.

Ring doorbells + floodlight cams
Google hubs/speakers/phones
TP-Link Kasa Cams and smart switches
TP-Link Deco router/APs
My-Q Garage door openers and cams
Philips Hue Bridge and bulbs
Samsung TVs, Washer/Dryer
Shark robot vacuums, etc, etc.

Right now most things are linked to my HA, as best as I know, but to date it is no better than Google home. I fear I am only scratching the surface on this thing so I put this out to the group…

What new project could I do that would send my setup to the next level. I have some hardware laying around that could be repurposed. I have 2 older Raspberry Pi2 SBCs and one Dell Optiplex 3060 Micro as well as an older laptop that works, but just not the monitor sadly. I have it in my head that the RPIs will be gobbled up for Mosquitto for MQTT and/or Zigbee to MQTT. Is this the right thinking? Any ideas/suggestions would be very much appreciated!! Thanks!

There is an app for mosquitto in HAOS and if you want MQTT with your zigbee, there is an app for that as werr, zigbee2mqtt.
