I have seemingly tried every conceivable combination of settings to get my free 30-day trial of Remote Home Assistant access, but I cannot get it to work. I would be very grateful if someone could help get this working before my trial runs out.

Go through the troubleshooting tips on the Nabu Casa website and if you still cant get it to work then open a support ticket.

Just so I have this straight, I cannot simply open the HA app on my phone when out and about, I have to use my browser to go to a specific address provided in the cloud section of settings…right? TIA
Wrong. Companion app has a Server page under Settings. You need to enter the cloud URL under the external address field. Once you do that, the app will connect to the cloud.
Please read the companion app docs. This is explained clearly there already.
