I’m fairly new to the whole home automation scene, and when I found Home Assistant I knew it was going to be a lot of fun automating my home. I created a bunch of automations to control my lights, cameras, switches, etc… One thing I didn’t love was YAML - I’ve been programming for 30+ years and YAML just wasn’t intuitive to me. But wow, AppDaemon - that makes so much more sense to me. I moved all my automations over to AppDaemon and never looked back. Python is a great language and I really enjoy learning and using it. The quick development/debug cycle using AD is awesome as well!
Nothing wrong with writing your automations in YAML (to each their own!), but AppDaemon… !!
I keep learning and discovering new capabilities - and of course the support from everyone here is awesome.
Thanks to Andrew and everyone that has contributed on the development, I’m having a blast!
i agree, @aimc did a hell of a job.
and i am a very heavy user
my apps.yaml is way over 1000 lines now and appdaemon still doesnt complain
oke i manage to slow it down sometimes
and there are an enourmous amount of things that would never be possible in YAML that can be done with AD.
…and @ReneTode you are one of those folks that are so very helpful - I have learned so much reading your posts…@SupahNoob you too!! I keep hoping to be able to be the guy to help somebody out, but I’m never fast enough (and I’m not nearly as good as either of you! )
always nice to hear that someone can learn from my knowledge or experience. so thanks.
and yeah i look several times a day if there are questions about AD or dashboard, so it could be a challenge to beat me in helping out
but you are a different person, so you have other views and ideas, so you could always speak out your point of view, that can only be helpfull and i could learn from that as well.
