I taught my Apple Watch to control my devices when I snap my fingers

I’m lazy and dream of being a Jedi who could point at a light to turn it on or off. I’m also a software engineer, so I made an app that allows me to do just that.

It’s called Maestro Snap. You point at a device, snap your fingers, and it toggles. You teach it by “painting”: you sweep your arm at a TV or a lamp for a few seconds to train the app. After that, point and snap and boom, magic. It detects which room you’re in, and you can tell it when it’s wrong to train it.

You have nothing to install on the HA side, and the watch just signs in with your normal HA user or long-lived token. It talks to your HA instance directly. It works with a bunch of device types and also with automations.

Everything runs on the watch, no cloud, no account, and no data collection. The pointing model never leaves your wrist.

It needs an Apple Watch with a compass: Series 5 or newer, any SE, any Ultra. The free tier is one device and one room, so you get to experience the magic for free.

I’ll answer everything in this thread, including what it still gets wrong. If you try it and it misbehaves, the iPhone app has a Support page that sends me a model export. This allows me to give a super precise answer at what’s going on!

How does it know which room you are in?

And how much are the paid tiers?

It does quick Bluetooth sniff of whatever already broadcasts in each room (TVs, speakers, plugs).

$8.99 one-time for unlimited devices and rooms. Free is one device in one room, on either Home Assistant or Apple Home.
