We have gas central heating made by ATAG. It’s the ATAG Q25S.
The room unit is a BrainQ RSC/6.
Replacing the BrainQ with an ATAG One would cost several hundred euros, so I’m exploring cheaper options. Also I like the BrainQ very much. It’s retro, it’s tactile and it has character.
Is it possible to somehow retrofit “smartness” with an OpenTherm gateway or something? Like hook it inbetween the room unit and the gas burner?
Ideally I would want to use both the Home Assistant integration as well as the room unit itself to read the current status as well as change the modes, timers etc.
Any pointers on where to look? Would it even be possible?
Can OT Thing change settings which will then show up on the room unit as well? Like for example setting the heating to standby mode via an automation and then back to auto via the room unit?
EDIT: Sounds like “repeater” is close to what I’m looking for. Question is: can it only intercept/override whatever is input in the room unit or can you change settings directly (via MQTT or the web interface) as well which would then update the interface on the room unit?
