I wanted a small Home Assistant touchscreen, so I tried this ESP32-S3 screen

I’ve been using Home Assistant and wanted a small screen to place on my desktop so I wouldn’t have to use my phone every time I control devices. So I tried the open nextion ESP32-S3 touchscreen. Currently, I mainly use it to control lights, view temperature and sensor data, and control some plug-in devices.

Compared to building an ESP32 touchscreen project from scratch, it saved me a lot of upfront work, such as display driver, touch, and interface debugging. What I like is that I can change its purpose later. My next step is to try ESPHome and see if I can create a voice assistant project. It’s somewhere between a ready-made smart device and an ESP32 development board, which is what attracts me.

One thing I really like about this setup is how quick and easy it is to get running with open nextion. Instead of building the whole HA interface from scratch, I can just flash through their app platform.

I’m still pretty new to this kind of stuff, so that was a big plus for me. The platform also has other apps that I can flash and update online, which makes it fun to try different things without having to start from scratch every time. :star_struck:
