IKEA Bilresa Scroll Wheel Not Working?

I am wondering if my IKEA Bilera Scroll is a lemon.

It oddly didn't have the sticky metal plate in the box when I opened it, unlike my dual button - and either shared as Matter via Alexa or connected directly in the Zigbee mode (Sonoff dongle so direct into HA) everything works BAR the scroll wheel?

(I already have a Zigbee network, so I'd need to get yet another dongle and setup Matter/OpenThread and I'd rather not do that yet. Hence the attempts to use it via Alexa).

it's really odd. I could see the MoveTo in Activity in ZHA, and no matter what Blueprint I tried...nothing. It works with Alexa directly fine, apart from of course no scroll wheel action and only sees it as 'three buttons' - up, down, and left (?) which is the centre click. The bottom 3 LED scene button did not work at all.

Any ideas? Have others had these scroll versions just refuse to scroll? I would assume it's Alexa not understanding it, but it doesn't get the bottom button in it's integration and that's working fine shared?

Thinking of asking them to replace because the missing stuff and also the Scroll wheel not working and is in eternal upgrade hell as well...The dual button which is also shared via Alexa updated fine, almost immediately, so don't think it's some IPv6/network shenanigans?

Otherwise, it works really well, love the different 'scenes' and long/double press in either Blueprint. But sad it can't dim or control volume.

So…I thought the problem was Alexa’s Thread Border Router and was about to plunk down for ANOTHER Sonoff dongle…

Until I saw this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_sXYXc1P2o and it worked!

It seems that scroll for some reason refuses to work on any Blueprint I tried (Zigbee or Matter in each respective mode, yes I tried ALL of them), but works totally fine when directly put into an automation.

Not sure why that is…but thought I’d better say in case someone is having the same issue.

Try referencing the device directly in automations after enabling the ‘Buttons’ aka Switch positions 1-9 (yes I had done that before) as detailed in the video on the Matter page for the device - by default the scroll entities are disabled. You can also do double/triple/hold click using button events as well.

I now wonder if it actually would have worked in Zigbee mode…not going to tear it apart to try it now it’s working but if I get another one, I will try since it does seem the ZIgbee mode battery life and reliability is better, comparing this Matter scroll to my dual switch.

Curiouser and curious - I got a second one, this has been a nightmare to pair and the scroll would only work on the first scene after much faffing. No idea why since I am copying all the same actions etc from the first that works?

Is there some problem with having more than 1 matter devices via Alexa shared?

Edit just tried it as Zigbee - a fail - then removed and re-added it as shared Matter with all the same entities it and it all works fine. Very odd.

I wonder if there’s something about the firmware updates that solves some issue but breaks it until it has been reset and re-added? Cos this is what happened with the first.

Multiple firmware updates - even to the same version, then lost by Alexa a few times, re-added, and then suddenly just all works. It’s very strange.

Having similar ‘fun’ updating the firmware of a Myggspray…that works fine but has been a bit weird re: batteries, hates Eneloops/1.2V rechargeables. But half expecting the same update - stops working - re-add a few times then works again cycle.

Matter, eh?
