IKEA Trådfri Stops DLTS issue. Stops working when adding Thread Border Router to system

Hey,

I have my home assistant setup up with the IKEA Tradfri integration and this generally works great. However, I wanted to add newer Matter devices over Thread so I got a Sonoff USB dongle and added this to laptop running hassio. But as soon as I do this, the tradfri devices no longer work reliably, e.g. no control of devices or states not updating.

In my logs, I notice that with the Thread router enabled, (almost) every minute the following log appears that doesnt show up without the otbr.

INFO (MainThread) [coap] No DTLS connection active to (TRADFRI_IP, 5684, b’…'), creating one

Has anyone else had similar issues or might know, how I could fix this?

I also tried assigning the OTBR to a different guest wifi via the idle wifi adapter but this did not change the effect on the tradri gateway.

I would greatly appreciate your help.

My setup:
OS: Home Assistant OS running on an old laptop (generic-x86-64)
Core Version: 2026.9.3
Related Integrations / Apps: IKEA Trådfri (tradfri), OpenThread Border Router (OTBR), Matter Server
Hardware: Sonoff USB Dongle (for OTBR), IKEA Trådfri Gateway (connected via Ethernet to Fritz!Box)

Its rather weird. I understand that the IKEA Tradfri is a ZigBee device. ZigBee and Thread share the same protocol for sending and receiving over RF (802.15.4), so they can in theory share the same 2.4GHz channel without too much interference from each other, but otherwise they are different protocols. However the log seems to suggest that Thread is trying to setup a DTLS connection to the Tradfri which suggests that Thread was paired (or attempted as such) with the Tradfri which is the weird part.
I would recommend that you set the Thread network to a different 2.4GHz channel so at least it won’t take out the Tradfri

Hey, thank you very much for taking to the time to make a suggestions.

I’ve just tried moving the Thread network to a different channel (from 15 to 26), but unfortunately the DLTS logs and more importantly the faulty device connections reappeared regardless. It seems to be related to some kind of 60 second loop only rarely not triggering:

I have definitely not attempted to pair the Tradfri  myself, but I am at a loss nevertheless.
