I bought three Vallhorn and installed all with 1.5v AAA batteries, two of them work fine but the third is always detecting movement. I changed that one to IKEAs Ladda 1.2v batteries but it still gives false positives. Almost never resets…
I’m confirming changing 1.5V batteries to rechargeable 1.2V Energizer solved false triggers on 3 Vallhorn sensors.
I’ve also had some issues connecting them. It looks like my Aqara smart socket failed to make an initial zigbee interview. Forced it to connect to the Sonoff zigbee stick and now it works (and also routes via other devices).

I’ve recently switched to 1,2V batteries too, Ikea Ladda, even tho mine was running fine with different other brands at 1,5V.
- The first set of batteries was Ikea Alkaline 1,5V, my 2 Vallhorns at that time gave false positives up to multiple times a minute at most.
- Second set of batteries was also 1,5V, but different brands, solved the issue 99%. Now I have 3 Valhorns in total, but one of them is still giving false positives, but at least it’s now down to maybe 2-5 times a day.
- Third battery change was to 1,2V Ikea Ladda, didn’t make any difference for me. The third Vallhorn still has false positives at the same rate as before. I’ve been running these batteries for about a week, and the previous set for about 2 weeks. No difference.
It seems like it comes down to what brand batteries we’re using, some have issues, others not. Ikea is recommending their own 1,2V batteries, witch is fine, but it seems like there’s no difference compared to other “confirmed good” 1,5V batteries.
Conclusion: If you’re having issues, best option is swapping to 1,2V rechargeable batteries. For those who already have Vallhorns with 1,5V batteries, and doesn’t experience any issues, there’s no reason to rush, swapping them to 1,2V probably won’t make any difference at all.
I have the same, have 2 sensors. 1 is working perfectly and the other is rubbish. I tried 8 different brands of batteries including the Ikea recharagble. I was that desperate that i even borrowed an ikea charger instead of my own universial charger but it keeps reporting detected 99% of the day.
Even if i put it in dark drawer.
I’m at the point to return it to Ikea.
Just an update that almost a month in and I haven’t observed any false positives for the 9 Vallhorn sensors since switching over to 1.2V rechargeables. I have 4 outside and 5 inside (stairs, closets, one bathroom) with most running automations during evening hours. If they continue to run well, this is quite the bargain. Hopefully the Parasoll door/window sensors get here soon!
Any one else seeing delays in detection?
I don’t know if it is always, but sometimes i see delays of 10 seconds and more.
+1 here with false motion detections, depending on the batteries used.
To test I’ve put two vallorns in a dark, closed drawer for >12 hours:
- normal Panasonic alkaline batteries → false detections every 5 minutes at voltage ca. 1,6 V
- Eneloop rechargable batteries (1,2V 750 mAh) → false detection every 1-2 hours, at voltage 1,299 and 1,300 V
- IKEA Ladda HR03 1,2V 900 mAh rechargable batteries → no false detections at all at voltage 1,288 V and 1,299 V
- Amazon basic normal 1,2 V 800 mAh rechargable → no false detections at all in 14 hours
The battery indicator shows 60-70 % for rechargable batteries. It is interesting to see that different rechargable batteries produce different fake detection rates even at nearly identical voltage.
Interesting, my Eneloop batteries work fine - but they have 800mAh
Is there a blueprint for the sensors already? Maybe someone got a link
The Eneloop rechargeable batteries do not seem to work in one of the sensors.
Even after recharging them, it never turns off the occupancy. Looks to me like a hardware issue
Working
Not working
According to the manual it appears to be possible:
Good to know Without DIRIGERA, you can connect a maximum of 10 smart products to one motion sensor. Remember to add one product at a time. If your products are close together, disconnect the ones you have already connected while adding the next product

I’m also curious about this
Thought my issue would be fixed with ordering some 1.2v batteries and then I noticed the ones from Ikea are 1.2v themselves so I bought them for nothing
Slightly different story here, the sensors trigger but don’t turn off the lights.
Haven’t set up a HA setup yet and I’m working purely with Dirigera so I have zero logs sadly.
+1 with false motion detection
Got me 4 vallhorns and it seems only 1 is working correctly after buying the IKEA 1.2 batteries. The other 3 keep ghosting with false positives. Hoping for OTA firmware upgrades
Similar story here. I have 2. Powered up one initially and got false positives galore after I put standard batteries (that ironically I only use for things like this!)
I read this, and I decided to experiment.
I changed the batteries in the initial unit to rechargeable and put the standard ones in the other, as yet, unopened unit.
Put them both in their boxes on the side…
The original unit that had all false positives, once I changed, not one false positive.
The other device, with the standard batteries IS reporting false positives now. I will change to rechargeables and see if that settles down.
I want to take out of the boxes and ensure the ‘working’ unit does report occupation as expected.
I’d suggest anyone who reads this writes a review on Ikea’s site as I expect more from them.
My issues where fixed when I switched to Ikeas 1.2v batteries, 1.5 seems to break these devices, both motion sensors and door sensors.
I was having issues as well, I also tried rechargable Amazons and verified the voltage. It still had issues. I tried the Ladda batteries and still had issues. Then saw someone mentioned that swapping over to a Skyconnect fixed it. I tried it and it fixed it.
I was using a Sonoff dongle, P version with a firmware that was updated several months ago with Zigbee2MQTT. I had issues with the Sonoff motion sensors as well, and some of my other Ikea remotes were hit and miss. Everything has been working flawlessly since trying the Skyconnect with ZHA.
These Valhorns now work nearly as well as the Philips Hue sensors.
welcome to the forum!
But why pair even one pruduct directly if you use home assistant?
Parasoll window sensors work without problems here, with 1,6 V (measured) alkalines.
Two Vallhorns both with IKEAs brown rechargeable 1.2v AAA ladda batteries running perfectly fine over here!
My Vallhorn is on the other side of the spectrum, it has false-negatives most of the time. I wish it had a way to adjust the sensitivity. And it’s using the 1,2V IKEA LADDA batteries.
