Install haos to USB disk enclosure and put NVME drive to the PC?

Hello,

I got a NUC14 bare-metal for HAOS and other installations, however as a vision impaired user I’d like to extract/install OS to the NVME disk via USB box from my Win PC and put NVME drive to the pc to boot. Is it possible?
Otherwise, if I use Proxmox, does my Sonoff and HomeAssistant USb zigbee dungles will work?
Thank you.

The NVME disk will have to be in the NUC for the installation. Most of the time a USB stick is used to plug into the NUC and to follow the installation steps.
Is it an option to hook up a monitor to the NUC to follow the standard installation method?

When using proxmox, you can plug in the USB into the server and then allow the HA VM to access it. Done here by this user: USB passthrough with proxmox - #3 by fantangelo

It is possible, you should just avoid booting from the NVMe disk until you’ve mounted it permanently (Generic x86-64 - Home Assistant). Be aware that -depending on the intricacies of your UEFI firmware- you might still have to set up a boot entry on the target computer (via efibootmgr).

For the future, you might prefer computers with (native) serial ports, as you could get text-based remote console access from grub upwards that way

Ok it seems i wasn’t read-up enough on the case and slh is right.
By following the steps in the installation guide (here) you can directly install the OS to the M.2 SSD.

Do know that you will likely still need to attach a screen and keyboard to be able to complete the steps, so it isn’t as easy as it could be.

Thank you very much to both of you. Device is about to arrive in next 30 minutes; I’ll try with USB stick firstly.
