Installing HA on a Raspberry Pi 2b following 32 bit OS's depreciation

I’ve been learning how to use HA for a couple of years now - it’s not an easy system to figure out. As an HA server, I finally finding a good use for a Raspberry Pi 2b I purchased many years ago. Since then I’ve found Arduino and ESP-32 are far more useful for the kinds of IoT projects I want to do with HA being a (non-cloud local) near ideal server. I currently use HA only for viewing data from a handful of environment sensors including temperature humidity sensors around the house and moisture sensors in the garden. I have an acurite weather station and the display died so i was able to configure an RTL dongle to read the sensor data and display it in HA. I recently purchased a Seed ePaper display and configured it to display the acurite sensor data and some additional sensors i created in HA. It was all working great until a week ago when i thought i should update my HA software. BIG mistake. I forgot about reading that Raspberry Pi 2 and 32 bit processors are no longer supported by HA. Unfortunately, upon my direction HA, attempted to go ahead and update my system anyhow which crashed it. (I thought HA would have saved me from myself but alas no). After repeatedly failing in using a recent backup I had stored on my PC to restore my system, I decided the best option was to do a clean install of HA after which time i could do a backup restore from the HA GUI. But since HA no longer supports the RPi2b, they took down this install option from the website. Fine, I decided to get the files from Git and install them. I downloaded the Raspberry Pi 2b OS image haos_rpi2-16.3.img from Git and installed it on an SD card using the Raspberry Pi imager, plugged it into my RPi and nothing. The red LED is on showing power, green LED flashed twice and that was it. With help from Gemini, i analyzed the boot files and formats on the SD card and it was all good. I then tried another image haos_rpi2-16.3.img from Git and same thing. I then installed the Raspberry Pi Lite OS and confirmed all my hardware is good. I know I can install the HA core on the Raspberry Pi Lite OS but that’s going to be an effort itself and then I’ll have to rebuild all new configs and manually install add-ons. Sure, I need to purchase a new Raspberry Pi 4 to run new versions of HA (and I will for my home), but I want to use HA on the Pi2 at my cottage for simply displaying weather data. Old versions of HA will do this just fine. Otherwise I have to spend another $200 for HA hardware and throw the RPi2 in the garbage. I guess my biggest question is, why won’t the HA OS images i downloaded from Git boot? And if I can get the HA OS running, what’s the best way to restore my system?

Your post is very difficult to read, I would try reformatting it. In essence the Pi2B is outdated and should not be used to run HA. You need a 4 or newer with at least 2GB RAM. I would look at a mini-PC instead though.

An RPI2 or 3 ships with 1GB RAM, not enough to run HA. Minumum is 2GB, which is why the minimum requirement is an RPi4.

But running HA just to display weather is a waste anyway. Simply buy a weather station, or buy an ESP32 for ten bucks:

Does roomassistant still work?

As lready stated…

Also if you get by the 32bit problem, HA needs like 2gb memory now. What’s that have, 0.5g?
