I have been using Twingate to provide secure remote access to my home server for some time. The home server includes Home Assistant running in a VirtualBox VM. It all worked fine providing access to HA as well as my Emby server. I could even manage and file access remotely via Window Remote Desktop.
The 2025.11.0 Companion App update appears to have broken my remote access but only for Home Assistant. After it installed it asked if i wanted more secure of less secure remote access configuration. I have tried both and neither work.
With Twingate the Home Assistant server just shows up as an IP address that I used to be able to access remotely once the Twingate connection was established. Now, even with the Twingate connection up and other apps like Emby working fine, the Home Assistant Companion App refuses to connect (“You’re disconnected”). I have tried copying the internal IP address under the settings for the external IP address. This did not help.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this?
Firstly, do you have location permissions granted?
Secure mode will not work without this.
Second is the Twingate URL/IP http or https?
If it is https then it should work. If it is http:
As Twingate is end to end encrypted you can turn off Secure mode. BUT it is up to you to ensure you are always connecting via this method.

Disclaimer: I know very little about Twingate and am not a security expert. This is just my understanding.
Thanks for the response.
After reviewing the initial feature description I decided I wanted to choose “less secure” because I do not want location services to bump up the battery drain on my iPhone, and because Twingate ensures fully secure remote access already. So I did not enable location permissions.
When this did not work for remote access via Twingate, I followed the suggestion under “Does this feature work when I’m connected through a VPN?” where it says “Set your local Home Assistant address as the external URL”. I copied and pasted the identical URL into the external setting.
This did not work either!
I have also tried setting Connection security level to both less and most. Neither work.
The Twingate URL/IP is http.
It has no noticeable effect on mine.
I got a suggestion to check the “Local network” setting in the iOS companion app. It was set to ON as required but while doing this I noticed that the Cellular Data switch was off. I don’t know how that happened. Must have been when the 2025.11 update installed because it worked fine before that.
Anyhow, switched Cellular Data to ON and all is good!
