iPad Guided Access + HA = Freezing/Forced Reset

I have two iPads running Home Assistant (and nothing else). This has been a constant issue since at least January 2026.

Any time I use either touch ID (iPad Air 1st gen) or face ID (iPad Pro 1st gen) to exit Guided Access, I have to reset/reboot the iPad as it freezes coming off of Guided Access. If I charge the iPads in HA/GA mode, there’s also a risk of a freeze.

Perhaps these iPads have other problems, but I don’t push them hard enough, game on them, or use them for anything besides HA.

Do you have the latest version of IOS as well as the browser installed?
Are they locking up waiting for your passcode, touchId or face to appear? Can you change/reset these to verify this is not the cause?

  1. iOS 26.6. Not using the web browser on the iPads. Using Home Assistant 2026.7.0 (2208).
  2. The lockup occurs AFTER the biometric accepts what I supply.
  3. When the “End/Resume” screen appears, I cannot interact with it and must reset.
