I say “updates” plural because I’m not quite sure which update that I recently did may have caused this as I did a couple at the same time. One was the typical incremental HA monthly update and then another one had the same logo but I think it had to do with Core or something maybe?
I’m having an issue where I add a new device via the Z-Wave JS UI Smart Start successfully but the device doesn’t show up within the Z-Wave Integration device list. When I did it this way previously the device showed up in the Z-Wave integration device list immediately. I could then go in and make edits to the device itself to add labels, areas and such.
In this instance however, there was no new device in the list at all.
I remembered that I recently did some firmware updates so I decided to restart HAOS in case there was any lingering residuals from that. Upon successful reboot, the newly added device now shows up so I thought maybe it was just some brief weirdness that had been sorted w/the reboot. But when I edit it (from within the Z-Wave integration) the label(s) I add don’t show.
Whatever I type into this context window:
Doesn’t seem to save:
…even though I clicked "update in the previous image it doesn’t display the label in the device list
…and when I go back to make sure I clicked update, none of what I entered above is there anymore.
Well, not on this browser instance of HA I should say. When I go to my mobile device HA app and find my list of devices within the Z-Wave integration in-app, it displays the label I added.
I’m fairly new to HA but the previous 50 or 60 devices I added didn’t display this behavior. With about 50 of those devices, though, I added them from the Z-Wave add-on rather than the Z-Wave JS UI. My older devices were all 500/700 mesh so I just clicked the “add device” button and added them that way, not knowing any different. (TBH, the resources for new people even on something even as fundamental as adding a new Z-Wave device are lacking)
My new process for adding new Z-Wave devices:
- take picture of QR code to import during next step (since I can’t seem to do this with the mobile app while adding new device?)
- From Smart Start tab within Z-Wave JS UI add-on I click the option to “scan” and then import the picture I took of the QR code for the device.
- click on the gray Z-Wave protocol button that reads "Z-Wave) and toggle to “Long Range”
- rename and activate via toggle to the left of the button that now reads “Long Range”
- I typically then go to the device within the Z-Wave integration to edit labels and made any name changes or whatever
I only recently started adding them via the Z-Wave JS UI smart start screen so I could toggle the protocol to Long Range for my newer devices. I did one this way before the recent firmware updates and it showed up in the Z-Wave integration right away. Edits to that device from within the Z-Wave integration also displayed right away.
I’m not sure what the issue is if it’s not user error but my knee-jerk reaction is a potential bug within the latest firmware updates I processed if it’s not some sort of user error on my part. I think that maybe there was one there for the Z-Wave JS UI that I processed recently too but I don’t recall if it was before or after that previous Z-Wave device I added successfully.
