In one car I see entities and status. In another I just see the entities and no status. Same phone and home assistant server. And I swear the one car that shows entities doesn’t always show them. Confused.
Are they actually connecting?
By connected, do you mean my phone being connected to home assistant? I didn’t check but I assume it is. And I will check.
When I pull out garage my phone disconnect from wfii and entities do not update. It takes a while for HA to connect over cellular and update.
Only notice this recently because before I park in driveway. In this case WiFi disconnect by time I get in car and cellular connect faster.
I think when in garage since CarPlay connected during WiFi to cellular transition the reconnect to HA take longer. There is definitely noticeable difference in operation I believe
Is your garage acting as a giant Faraday cage, shielding you from connectivity, and once you emerge, everything reconfigures and all is well? The vehicle parked further away in the garage takes longer to connect?
If your router supports it, check WiFi signal strength for each relevant device. Your phone will also have apps for signal strength, both WiFi and cellular.
Partially Yes. it is concrete ceiling with metal beams. radio signal in my home can be a mess. I have AP on other side of wall (wood) so wifi is OK in garage. Outside garage/Outside Home is another matter.
But I was acutally saying in the garage it is working.
When i pull out it disconnects and takes long time to connect.
This does not occur when i get into car parked in driveway as phone is already off wifi and doesnt need to transition wifi >> cellular.
I use carplay to open/close garage.
If i back out garage I cannot use carplay as entities dont update

I always attributed this to wifi>>cellular transition. if I wait some time it eventually connect but it seem to take significantly longer when leave from garage(basically useless) when leaving.
I havent looked closely at this because i only realize this issue recently. My wife car in shop and she using my car and parks it in garage.

Maybe use a presence detector instead to open/close your garage automagically? Link it to the vehicles presence rather than your phone that is lazy to switch from WiFi to cellular.
Something like a small BlueTooth tracker beacon inside each vehicle could be used to trigger your HomeAssistant routines. Look at the Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC with the GitHub - pvvx/ATC_MiThermometer: Custom firmware for the Xiaomi Thermometers and Telink Flasher firmware modifications that won’t trigger your iPhone stalker alarms. Cheap and as a bonus will display the temperature and humidity in your car. Can be flashed to ZigBee with another patch if you already have Zigbee devices installed, otherwise just stay with BlueTooth.
my point in mentioning my issue was more to point out that it may be similar to OPs issue. That being that the phone is not able to update states with HA do to some network delay/issue.
Im curious to cause of my issue but no real care for at the moment.
I’d venture it is a problem with your iPhone.
Have you turned off random MAC addresses in your iPhone network settings? Allocated static IP addresses on your WiFi router in DHCP? Both of these may speed up phone/cellular recognition and handover. Try them and let us know in case it helps others.
Well. Got bored and did a quick test(really several ). To be fair, I updated to 2025.12 today so not sure if that changed anything. That said
Garage and driveway are both same
Problem is “quick access” and maybe other parts don’t work in CarPlay for some long period. Maybe 3minutes. This problem is unrelated to phone network connection
I opened app on iPhone and verified it was working. Only “quick settings” in CarPlay did not work and sensors seemed not to update in CarPlay.
Honestly this seems worse than previous but maybe it is same. I never did Sid by side comparison phone be CarPlay. Anyway, I will watch this for a while and submit to app developer if it doesn’t change and after I get more meaningful details
