Is it possible to install Home assistant on Raspberry Pi Zero W?

FWIW, I have created a straightforward minimal docker-based home-assistant unattended install script from std Alpine 3.23 boot media (any devices, not limited to Pi).

It may be found there as part of ALHB tool (detailed instructions within file comments).
Just prepare baseline Alpine boot media, toss-in few files, power-up: in a couple of minutes, complete system setup will get installed onto media and device will then reboot.
After reboot, log-in via ssh to update/download actual home-assistant container release (quite long on Pi Zero), and you are good to go!

Those little PiZero devices can offer very decent home-assistant services at small cost and power budget.

Notes:

  • due to CPU PiZeroW is limited to home-assistant 2025.11.3 release (last for 32-bit).
  • PiZero2W may run latest 64-bit releases thanks to zram RAM compression (enabled in install script).

Enjoy!
